Does the USCGA have something like the BGO to help with preparation and the application process?
I don’t believe it’s quite as robust as USNA’s BGO program sounds, but yes, USCGA does have an “Admissions Partners” program consisting of alumni throughout the country that have volunteered to help out with the admissions process in their area. Duties typically include going to high school college fairs, presenting appointment certificates, possibly meeting with prospective cadets. Contact the admissions office to learn more.

Why does my face turn bright red everytime I work out?
I am not outta shape & this has always been the case..seems like all the heat leaves through my face…

When you work out, your body produces heat. One way that your body makes sure it doesn’t overheat is by sweating, of course, but your body also increases blood circulation to the skin’s surfaces, so the heat can be radiated off (smart bod). Warm, oxygenated blood rushes to your face, turning it that bright red color. It’s receiving lots of healthy blood, bringing nutrients to your skin and carrying away toxins.
If you are noticing other symptoms besides a red face, like dizziness, fatigue, or nausea, you may be in danger of becoming overheated. To help your body stay cool, wear clothes that breathe easily, like cotton. Also make sure to keep yourself hydrated. Bring a water bottle with you and sip when you feel yourself getting too hot (resist chugging down gallons of water – it could give you a belly ache). You can also pour some water on your head to cool you off (if you’re running, lean forward so you don’t get water in your shoes – it’ll prevent blisters).

Can someone help me embroider my wedding veil?
Hi! I’m getting married next year and I am embroidering my own veil. I have already bought the style I want with a silk border, and I want to embroider the border and possibly some of the inside with stars and other shapes.
Can someone help me with this? I need a pattern to follow, if there even is such a thing with this type of sewing … I already do cross-stitching a lot and am familiar with it, so if you can help me with this, it would greatly reduce my chances of ruining my veil, lol.

Yes, I know I need to practice, but I need help with specifics … I have an idea of what I want and a veil with the border on it already.
There are 2 things that you can do: cross stitch a decorative border (flowers, etc.) or do actual embroidery. If you want to cross stitch it, buy waste canvas (available at needlework shops and possibly at places like Michaels). If you’re not familiar with how to use waste canvas, it’s pretty straightforward. You baste the waste canvas (available in different counts) right onto your fabric and this gives you an aida-type surface to do your cross stitching. When you’re done, use a spray bottle of water to dampen the waste canvas threads and soften the glue. You then pull away the waste canvas threads with tweezers and you’re left with just your stitched design. Get a leaflet on borders if you’re thinking of going this route. To do hand embroidery, you’ll need to find a border pattern you like. Trace it on paper. Lay your veil over the tracing and trace it again onto the fabric using a light pencil. Be sure and stitch over the pencil outlines! You might need to use a lightbox to trace the design onto the fabric. Good luck, this is an ambitious project!
